Hydra-Sports 2800 WalkAround: All-Weather Fishing
Hydra-Sports 2800 WalkAround, a steady platform for tough conditions
August 10, 2001
Some days the sea is not kind. In fact, it almost always seems that when you plan an offshore fishing trip, weather happens.
Anglers looking for a serious fishing boat with a seaworthy deep-V hull that can take the sea's retribution and offer security and comfort at the same time should check out the 2002 Hydra-Sports 2800 WalkAround.
The flagship of the Vector series, the 2800 WA is 28 feet, 2 inches long with a 9-foot, 8-inch beam. The wide beam provides stability with shifting weight loads in heavy seas, or during a frenzied fish fight when all hands are scrambling on deck.
The vessel's deep-V hull is Kevlar-reinforced with a pronounced bow flair, reverse chines and spray strakes, which help it ride high and dry. The hull is all-composite and wood-free.
Fishing amenities include a 38-gallon insulated baitwell with a light, cutting board and high-capacity pump; four stainless steel gunwale-mount rod holders port and starboard, and a bait prep station with faucet, sink, cutting board and tackle storage.
Two 220-quart insulated fish boxes with overboard drains and macerator pumps provide storage for your catch. The cockpit is also self-draining with oversized scuppers.
The boat should also prove comfortable for overnighters. There's a forward vee berth for two and a mid-berth that sleeps two. Other cabin features include: a convertible dinette table, snap-in carpet, water heater, 12V direct lighting, four ports with screens, and a hatch with a screen for indirect lighting.
The 5,000-BTU air conditioner and 6 feet 4 inches of headroom create a cool spacious living area. The fully equipped galley has a molded-in fiberglass sink with cutting board, inlaid countertop, microwave, butane stove, refrigerator, trash receptacle and storage compartments. The head features a sink with a faucet that doubles as a shower head.
Retail price for the 2800 WA is $112,250 with twin 225 hp engines. The hull is warranteed for 10 years; most component parts for three years.
